Conferences

Over the past 2 years, we have begun transitioning the focus of our efforts from serving our own virtual globes to promoting virtual globes as a paradigm shift in the way earth sciences are being conducted. This has taken the form of numerous talks and workshops locally, as well as national and internationally meetings.

The first national meeting that we coordinated was the 1st Annual Virtual Globes Scientific Users Conference, in Boulder Colorado in July of 2006.

Our next big national meeting were several virtual globe sessions at the Fall American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco California in December of 2006. These involved a new form of "poster" presentation, which included use of live internet and projectors at each poster location.

Our next major meeting is the 2nd Annual Virtual Globes Scientific Users Conference, to be held as session within the 5th International Symposium on Digital Earth. This promises to be a high-profile international meeting, and we have already lined up a panel with virtual globe development heads from Google, Microsoft, NASA, ESRI, Skyline Software, and GeoFusion.

John Bailey of UAF has created a nice page that highlights many past and future conferences and workshops related to virtual globes, please check it out. If you know of new events planned for the future, please email both of us.
